Vina’s Star Quilt Pattern
Our final pattern release for Spring 2020 is Vina’s Star. This is a lonestar quilt that we have wanted to do for years. Diane’s mom, Vina, owned an antique quilt that was very similar to this, but all we have left of it are these photos.
We have no idea what happened to the original, so we decided a remake was as good as it gets. To recreate the quilt, we chose Bella solids in colors as close as we could get. We also added a little pizazz to the corners with some multicolor appliquéd stars.
We also wanted to make an updated version, and once we saw these cross weave colors at Suppose, we were smitten. We thought it might be fun to add another option to this one with a diagonal striped border. It reminds us of Beechnut Fruit Striped Gum.
Here’s a closeup where you can really see the quilting and individual colors. One of our favorite things about this pattern is using strip piecing to make the center star. It really goes together pretty quickly! There are also no Y-seams involved in the construction of this quilt.
Every time we see these sherbety colors, we think of Grandma Vina. We love having designs that connect us to our family roots. This quilt uses 8 colors and finishes at 83″ x 83″, or 92″ x 92″ with the borders.
This quilt is stunning! I would love to make it, but I’m curious does it has Y-seams? That isn’t a skill I have mastered yet.
Hi Tori, We have designed this quilt with no Y-seams!
