Quilts We’ve Made: Trip Around the World
A few years ago, Aunt Grace came out with this charming line of international travel themed 30’s fabric. It was the perfect thing for a Trip Around the World Quilt. There were also dolls of the world, dressed in international costume, which were the perfect size to fussy-cut and center in the block.
As the time, everyone was using the traditional Amish black as background, but I discovered that black kind of “kills” certain colors. Instead, I found a really good navy and it was a good match. Each square block is about 3 inches, so this is about a twin size quilt.
As the quilt grew, I also realized I needed more of the outside rows and less of the inside rows–sounds like a no-brainer, I know–but I had purchased the same amount of each print. The backing goes along with the theme–it is a print of old fashioned travel suitcase labels. This traditional quilt pattern is so easy to put together with a precut 2 1/2″ jelly roll and a coordinating solid fabric.
