Piece & Love Quilt Along: Week 2
It’s Week Two of the Piece & Love Quilt Along! This is the week where things really get going. We’re going to get everything cut and ready to sew together for next week. Please read the pattern carefully. This is the part that we have had the most questions about.
If you don’t already have the squares for your heart cut, you will need to cut those to size first. If you have the kit or bought charm squares, you can skip that step. Cut all of the squares for the heart in half diagonally, and set aside.
Next, you’ll cut the pieces for the background stripes. Some of the strips will need to be cut, then pieced on the ends, then cut again. For these strips, trim your selvages before piecing, as shown below.
Some of the background squares will also need to be cut in half, like the heart squares. Not all of them will be cut this way, so read the directions carefully!
The background fabrics take a deceitfully long time to cut compared to the heart squares, so keep that in mind as you’re planning your time.
You can also cut your binding strips at this time, if you know what you’ll be using. We like to use the same color for the binding as the darker background stripe, so we are using the Saffron yellow for binding.
