Nordic Frost Quilt Along: Week 5

We hope you had a lovely Christmas holiday! Now that the festivities are over, we can get this Nordic Frost Quilt Along all wrapped up as well. Since we finished the quilt top last week, the only things left to do are quilt and bind this beauty.

Of course, before you can start any quilting you will need to piece the backing. We used leftovers from the quilt top to make a pieced backing. We just love using every bit of fabric from a project! Since things are extra busy around the holidays, we sent this quilt out to be quilted by Cami, our favorite long armer and best quilty friend.

She used a digital pantograph from Anne Bright Designs called Windy Woods. It’s the perfect winter design, with wind swirls, pine needles, and leaves. Once the quilting is done, square up the quilt. We like to start by trimming the corners and then the sides to meet.

The striped borders also make a great reference point to keep the quilt square. After you have trimmed all the extra batting and backing away, it’s time to make the binding. Here’s a quick time lapse of us making our binding, but if you want a more in-depth tutorial, check out our Scrappy Binding Tutorial.

We used the same method as usual, which is to sew the binding onto the back of the quilt, then flip around to the front and sew it down from there. Make sure to give the whole thing a good pressing once you’re done. Here’s our finished quilt!

Isn’t it just perfectly festive? The best part of this quilt pattern is that you can keep it out all winter long.

Of course, we had to take some pictures out in the snow as well.

And one more close up for good measure.

Thank you for quilting along, on this quilt and all year long. We would love to see your Nordic Frost quilt. You can share with us in a couple of different ways:

We’re taking the rest of the week off to vacation with our families. See you next year for more quilting fun!
