Midnight Quilt
Now that Christmas is come and gone, we can freely share photos of the quilts we made as gifts this year. First up, the Midnight Quilt! This beauty was made using a quilt kit from Moda Fabrics, and included fabric and a pattern by Fig Tree Quilts.
We actually saw this quilt in real life at Quilt Market a few years ago, and bought a few kits to sell back when we had our little fabric shop. Audrey saved a kit for herself, but never got around to making it, since the colors weren’t quite right for her home decor. Upon further reflection, we realized that the colors worked wonderfully in her mother-in-law’s house!
Honestly, this quilt pattern is not for the faint of heart. The angles make piecing a challenge, and after less than impressive results on the first couple of blocks, it was hard to want to keep going. But, deadlines always make things get done, so after a final push in the weeks leading up to Christmas, things came together in record time.
The quilting was all hand guided (since our longarm quilting machine doesn’t have a computer, anyway) stippling in the black, and then geometric star outlines within the stars. For the backing, we used a gray rose print from the stash.
Isn’t it great to gift a quilt to someone who truly appreciates the work involved with such an undertaking? We also love to use another something from the stash, so now we can go get something new. We are truly looking forward to our next project, but in the meantime, you’ll love the next couple of quilts we have to share. Stay tuned!
