Basmati Rice Bag Purses
Today, we are showing you two basmati rice bag purses we made a long time ago. Since we have a few to give away, these are some ideas of what you could do with them. We made the purses shown by taking out the stitching and resewing them into a messenger bag and a bucket bag. For the messenger bag, we inset the zipper for an additional pocket opening and left the flap top open. It also has pockets on the inside that were sewn to the lining. The handle has a piece of woven braid sewn to the outside of the handle and frayed at the bottom to make fringe. 
The bucket bag has a round circle on the bottom and a rectangular piece was sewn to that. The lining was cut to match the outside pieces and it also has two inside pockets. The leather handles were reused from an older purse. Whenever I sport this rice bag I have at least 10 people (ladies, not men) ask me where I got it.
We recently scored nine of these burlap basmati rice bags; 7 of the beige background and 2 of the white background. We have seen these remade into some pretty cool and creative stuff over the years, but the ones we are giving away already have a zipper top and handles. It can be used as a tote bag just like it is, or it could be lined with some pretty fabric and embellished. We have also seen them made into decorative pillow covers. The last time we saw basmati rice at the warehouse store, it was in PLASTIC bags!!! The burlap bags are now a thing of the past and in very short supply.
